Luke Myer MP attended a special service in Easington this evening (26 May 2026) to welcome the Revd Dr Gill Boag-Munroe as the new Curate in Charge of the Benefice of Easington with Liverton.
The service at All Saints Church brought together residents from across East Cleveland alongside church leaders and civic representatives, including the Bishop of Whitby, Barry Hill, and the King’s representative, Deputy Lord Lieutenant Graham Henderson.
Speaking during the service, Luke reflected on growing up in nearby Brotton and spoke about the strong communities of East Cleveland – their identity, pride, kindness and deep sense of history. He said he hoped Gill would find that same strength and warmth reflected back in the communities she now serves, and offered his support should she ever need it in the future.
Gill, who lives in Loftus, previously served along the North Yorkshire coast at the Mulgrave Group of Churches near Whitby. Before entering ministry she worked as an English teacher and university tutor. She now takes on leadership of the benefice covering All Saints Church in Easington, St Hilda’s in Liverton Mines and St Michael’s in Liverton.
Following the service, Luke spent time chatting to residents at the village hall, where many gathered to welcome Gill and mark the beginning of her ministry in the area.
Luke Myer MP said:
“It was lovely to welcome Gill to Easington and Liverton, and I know people across the benefice will make her feel hugely welcome. I’m sure she’ll quickly discover what so many of us already know – that special East Cleveland spirit and sense of community. I wish her every success in this new chapter.”
