Today (7 April 2025) the Government has announced the shortlist for the next wave of green hydrogen projects. Three of these are in the Teesside region, highlighting the region’s role in leading the green industrial revolution.
The Teesside projects selected are:
- Tees Green Hydrogen Phase 2 – EDF Renewables
- Teesside Green Hydrogen – H2 Energy Ecosystem UK
- South Tees Net Zero – South Tees Net Zero Ltd
These projects are part of the Government’s major programme to ramp up low-carbon hydrogen production across the country.
Luke Myer MP highlighted Teesside’s potential for hydrogen in his first ever contribution in Parliament, and is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Hydrogen. He met with Hydrogen UK last year to discuss the huge potential Teesside has to lead this industry, and welcomed the major investment for Teesside in the Budget.
Luke Myer MP said:
“This is another important announcement from Government which solidifies Teesside’s place as a global leader in green industries. These projects will unlock further private sector investment, and deliver high-quality skilled jobs for our people.”
One of the six central planks of Labour’s Plan for Change is about delivering energy security, which means good jobs in green industries and long-term investment in Teesside.
