Luke Myer MP visited the new Tees Valley Community Diagnostic Centre in Stockton today, describing it as a “real game-changer” for the region.
The centre houses two MRI scanners, two CT scanners, four ultrasound rooms, X-ray facilities, cardiology testing upstairs, and lung function services. This means patients from across the Tees Valley can now access rapid scans and tests in an out-of-hospital setting, getting answers more quickly and reducing pressure on local hospitals.
During the visit, Stacy Hunter described the centre as a state-of-the-art, world-class facility, emphasising the focus on dignity, comfort, and effective patient flow for everyone who comes through the door.
Stockton North MP Chris McDonald highlighted the impact this centre will have on health outcomes in the town, where life expectancy remains below the national average. He praised the dedication of the clinical and project teams and pointed out that the centre aligns with long-term NHS ambitions to deliver care closer to home while creating high-quality jobs locally.
Luke highlighted the benefits to the wider Tees Valley region, and praised the efforts of the NHS Trusts to collaborate more closely together.
Consultants Simon Milburn and Philip Woolfall described the project as the biggest diagnostic investment in their working careers. They noted how it will relieve capacity pressures from Northallerton to Hartlepool, improving services across the board. The facility is already seeing up to 200 patients per day, helping to cut waiting times and ensure people receive prompt care.
Speaking after the visit, Luke Myer MP said this new facility will benefit not just Stockton but the entire Tees Valley:
“Centres like this show what can be achieved when local ambition is backed by national investment. This is the modern, effective NHS care our communities deserve.”
Luke Myer reiterated his commitment to advocating for further investment in healthcare across Teesside to ensure everyone has access to the very best care, close to home.
