Path improvements completed at Roseberry Topping

This week, initial works to improve the footpath through Cliff Ridge Wood at Roseberry Topping were completed, marking a significant step forward in protecting one of Teesside’s most loved natural landmarks.

Delivered in partnership between the National Trust and the North York Moors National Park Authority, the improvements have focused on resurfacing and drainage to address erosion and make the route safer and more accessible, particularly during the wetter winter months.

Further work will continue periodically as the new surface settles, with teams returning where needed to make small adjustments and ensure the path stands up to heavy use while protecting surrounding habitats.

Luke Myer MP welcomed the progress, highlighting the importance of investing in access alongside conservation:

“Roseberry Topping means a great deal to people across Teesside and East Cleveland. These improvements show how we can protect a special landscape while making sure everyone can continue to enjoy it safely.

I know many families will enjoy walking up our little Matterhorn over the Christmas holidays and will see that the surface has been considerably improved. This is careful, practical investment that will make a real difference for years to come.”

Luke has previously met with the National Park Authority to discuss the wider programme of path repairs, and continues to support long-term investment that balances environmental protection with public access.

Last year, Luke also welcomed the team in Parliament to mark the 75th anniversary of Labour’s creation of the National Parks, a landmark policy that led to the designation of 15 national parks across the UK, including the North York Moors as the sixth in 1952.
