Permanent care secured for elderly lady

24 August 2026

A vulnerable 89-year-old woman has been given a permanent place in residential care after Luke Myer MP stepped in to support her family.

The Coulby Newham constituent had experienced repeated falls and hospital admissions, and her family were deeply concerned that plans for her to leave residential care would not provide the level of support she needed. Luke’s team urgently raised the case with Middlesbrough Council and asked for her proposed placement and care needs to be reviewed.

Following the intervention, the council reviewed the case and agreed a permanent residential placement. The constituent’s daughter described it as a “great result” and thanked Luke’s team for their support.
