Luke welcomes new Nunthorpe business Hedley’s

23 August 2026

Luke Myer MP has welcomed another new independent business to Nunthorpe, after Hedley’s Coffee Co. officially opened its doors this weekend.

Luke stopped by last week to see the final touches going into the new café at The Avenue Shops, chatting with owner Ben Rae and even meeting Ben’s uncle, who had been roped in to help get everything ready for opening day.

Luke returned on opening day this weekend, buying some drinks and catching up with Ben, his family, and members of the new team. There was a brilliant turnout from Nunthorpe residents, as well as a strong showing from Ben’s former Armed Forces colleagues.

The café has a particularly personal story behind it. Ben, who served in the Army for seven years, named the business after his late grandfather Peter, who inspired him to take the plunge and start his own business. Hedley’s serves speciality coffee, teas, matcha, baked goods and sandwiches, with the pet-friendly café hoping to become a new community hub for Nunthorpe.

Luke Myer MP has consistently supported small businesses, including through his Small Business Spotlight series and through bringing the Federation of Small Businesses into Parliament to make sure their voice is heard. He has also regularly supported Nunthorpe, holding five surgeries in the area and taking up a range of issues for residents.

Luke Myer MP said:

“If you’re in Nunthorpe, pop into Hedley’s, grab a drink and support a fantastic new local business!”

Hedley’s Coffee Co. is open 7am to 4pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm at weekends at The Avenue Shops, Nunthorpe.
