Earlier this month, Luke Myer MP helped secure new road safety measures on the A171 at Scaling Dam after a resident raised repeated concerns about collisions, poor visibility and a lack of clear warnings for drivers. 

Following Luke’s intervention, Redcar & Cleveland Council confirmed that they will install new signage and fresh road markings on their side of the boundary to warn motorists about junctions and potential queues — a key issue where vehicles often turn for the pub, garage, campsites and residential roads.

Luke also pressed North Yorkshire Council to review the route, highlighting that incidents were being split between two authorities. As a result, both councils have now engaged on visibility issues and the need for clearer safety measures near the garage and other access points along the busy stretch.

Luke will continue working to ensure authorities coordinate properly along the boundary so residents aren’t left passing between departments.
