This week, works will begin to improve safety along Stainton Way in Hemlington, following concerns raised by local residents about visibility and damage caused by dangerously overgrown roadside trees.
Thanks to the local Hemlington Labour team, Middlesbrough Council have agreed to come out on Monday 1 December to carry out essential tree safety works on sections of Stainton Way near the entrance to the Dales estate and the junction towards Stainton.
The trees affected are struggling for light and have begun leaning towards the carriageway, creating risks for drivers and pedestrians. Their removal will improve sightlines at key junctions and make the route safer for everyone who uses it.
The works follow repeated complaints from Labour councillors Nicky Walker and Tom Mohan, along with Luke and members of the public. Further assessments are already underway, with additional works on other parts of Stainton Way planned in due course where needed.
Luke welcomed the action and praised the role of local Labour representatives in raising residents’ concerns.
Local Hemlington Labour Councillor Tom Mohan said the concerns had been coming up repeatedly on the doorstep.
“Residents have raised this with us time and again, particularly about poor sightlines and the risk of accidents. We’ve been pushing for action, and it’s good to see the council responding. Keeping people safe on our roads has to come first.”
