Luke Myer MP has welcomed new investment from Great British Energy that will see solar panels installed at five schools and colleges across Middlesbrough to cut their energy bills.
Sunnyside Academy in Coulby Newham, St Gerard’s RC Primary in Hemlington, and Middlesbrough College have all been selected to receive clean power funding that will help reduce their long term energy costs, with solar panels installed on their buildings.
The programme – which is the first major project for the Labour Government’s publicly owned energy company GB Energy – will mean less money wasted on energy bills and more resources going back into frontline services.
It’s estimated that the scheme could save schools thousands on their energy bills over their lifetime, showing the difference that clean power can make towards energy security for local communities.
Luke Myer MP said:
“This welcome investment by Great British Energy in Middlesbrough schools will mean less money spent on energy bills, and more resources being directed into the thing that really matters – frontline resources.
“Through Great British Energy, Labour is delivering energy security, investing in our public services and delivering lower bills for our communities.”
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said:
“Great British Energy is helping your local school or hospital save money on its bills, to be reinvested into the frontline, from textbooks to teachers to medical equipment.
“Across the country, solar panels are going up on rooftops or carpark canopies, to power classrooms and operating theatres with clean, homegrown power. This is our clean energy superpower mission in action, protecting our public services with lower bills and energy security.”
