I am deeply saddened to announce the death of long-standing Labour activist, veteran and community champion Chris Williamson, who passed away aged just 49.

Chris was a decent, kind and salt-of-the-earth man with Labour values to his core. He served his country in the Green Howards, and carried with him their values of courage, integrity, respect, discipline, loyalty and commitment in spades. He was exactly what it means to be Labour.

My thoughts are with his family, friends, his beloved dogs, and all who knew him. He will be missed.
