Luke Myer Welcomes Transformative Clean Power 2030 Action Plan as Key Step for Green Jobs and Energy Security

The Government has today unveiled its Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, a bold strategy to revolutionise Britain’s energy system and secure a future of sustainable, affordable and homegrown energy. Luke Myer, MP and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Carbon Capture, has welcomed this significant step in Britain’s green transition and highlighted its importance for creating jobs and securing the country’s energy future.

This landmark plan arrives during a historic week for green jobs and investment, following the Government’s Final Investment Decision on the Teesside Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) projects. These initiatives underline the UK’s leadership in cutting-edge clean energy technology and its commitment to building a greener economy.

The Clean Power 2030 Action Plan sets out a sweeping vision to upgrade the national grid, making it fit for a clean energy economy, and to accelerate planning decisions for renewable energy infrastructure to ensure it can be built more quickly. It will also make it easier to construct onshore wind farms and provide financial support for communities living near new energy developments, helping to cut energy bills. In addition, it commits to unlocking £40 billion in annual investment, which will help to reindustrialise Britain and create thousands of green jobs across the country.

Luke Myer, MP, Chair of the APPG for Carbon Capture, said:
“This is a significant step towards delivering the clean, secure and affordable energy future that Britain urgently needs. It follows the Government’s landmark signoff in Teesside green industries earlier this week – it’s clear that this Government is moving quickly to reindustrialise the North with good, green jobs.”

The Clean Power 2030 Action Plan marks a turning point in the UK’s efforts to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, mitigate the impacts of climate change and strengthen its industrial base. Key projects, such as the Teesside CCUS development, highlight the vital role of clean energy technologies in boosting local economies while addressing global environmental challenges.

The plan promises to deliver economic and environmental benefits, ensuring that the UK continues to lead the world in clean energy innovation and industrial renewal.
