Today (27 March), Teesside firm px Group has secured a major contract on the £4bn NZT Power carbon capture project — bringing around 100 new jobs and apprenticeships to the area.

The deal will see px Group take on operations, engineering and maintenance for both the carbon capture plant and CO₂ compression facilities at the heart of the project — a critical role in delivering the UK’s first commercial-scale carbon capture network.

It comes as part of the wider East Coast Cluster, which has now awarded £1.5bn of contracts to more than 230 UK businesses and is expected to support over 3,000 jobs across the region and beyond.

For Teesside, the benefits are already clear. From fabrication firms and transport providers to engineering specialists, local businesses are securing work — while px’s contract alone will see around 100 local people recruited, with a strong focus on apprenticeships and long-term careers.

The announcement builds on px Group’s deep roots in the region, having recently expanded into a new Teesside headquarters to support its growing workforce and future ambitions.

Luke Myer MP, who chairs Parliament’s carbon capture group, welcomed the news as a major step forward for Teesside’s industrial future.
