Urgent housing failures fixed
Luke Myer MP has helped secure urgent action for a single mum in Coulby Newham after Middlesbrough Council repeatedly closed her homelessness case without warning — leaving her and her two young sons without stable accommodation for more than two years.
Following Luke’s intervention, the Council acknowledged serious errors, apologised, and reinstated her Band 1 housing priority. A senior manager has now taken direct oversight of her case, and no officer is permitted to amend or close her account without their approval.
For a family which has endured years without a safe place to live, constant stress, and children sharing the strain of uncertainty, Luke’s intervention ensures they have a real chance to secure a stable home. Luke continues to challenge poor practice in local housing services to prevent similar failings affecting other vulnerable families.
