Luke Myer MP has welcomed new figures showing a significant reduction in crime following the first year of Project Orme, a multi-agency operation focused on tackling organised crime and improving safety in parts of East Middlesbrough.
Figures released by Cleveland Police show that total crime across the East Middlesbrough area fell by 11 per cent over the twelve months from November 2024 to November 2025, equivalent to 556 fewer victims. Reports of violent crime were down by 15.5 per cent over the same period, alongside major seizures of drugs, weapons and criminal cash.
Project Orme launched in December 2024 and has focused on neighbourhoods including Park End & Beckfield in Luke’s constituency, alongside other areas of TS3. The operation has brought together Cleveland Police, Middlesbrough Council, housing providers and public services to disrupt organised crime, close down drug lines, tackle antisocial behaviour and work with residents to reclaim streets and public spaces.
Since being elected, Luke has repeatedly pressed for stronger neighbourhood policing and tougher action on organised crime, including securing a £7.4 million funding boost for Cleveland Police and raising concerns in Parliament about the impact of drugs, violence and off-road bikes on local communities. He has argued consistently that visible policing and long term partnership working are essential to restoring confidence and keeping people safe.
Commenting on the update, Luke said:
“I know from speaking to residents in East Middlesbrough how damaging organised crime and persistent antisocial behaviour can be to everyday life. These figures show that when the police are properly resourced and supported by councils and other agencies, they can make a real difference. Fewer victims and safer streets matter.”
He added:
“This is not the end of the job, but it is clear progress. I will keep pushing for more officers on our streets and for the kind of joined up approach that backs communities and tackles the root causes of crime, not just the symptoms.”
Luke will continue to work with Cleveland Police, Middlesbrough Council and partner agencies to ensure communities in his constituency see sustained improvements in safety and quality of life.
