Luke Myer MP Welcomes New Industrial Strategy to Bring Investment and Jobs to Teesside

Luke Myer, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, has warmly welcomed the Government’s new 10-year Industrial Strategy as a vital step towards driving long-term investment, growth, and skilled employment in Teesside and the wider North East.

One of the first questions Luke asked in Parliament last September was when the government would bring forward a proper industrial strategy.

After years of uncertainty, this plan is finally here — and it signals a commitment to government intervention, backing industries of the future, and investing in people and places that have been left behind for too long.

The Industrial Strategy aims to cut industrial energy bills, unlock investment in high-growth sectors, and devolve new powers to local leaders. The Tees Valley is set to benefit from targeted support across clean energy, advanced manufacturing, creative industries, and digital innovation.

Luke Myer MP said:
“Teesside built Britain’s past, and with this strategy we have the chance to help shape its future. Whether it’s clean energy on the coast, new creative industries in our towns, or skilled jobs in the supply chains of tomorrow, this plan puts our region at the heart of Britain’s economic renewal.

From tackling energy costs to unlocking long-overdue investment in transport and skills, I’m proud that local priorities are being delivered through serious, long-term policy. After decades of sticking plasters, it’s time to give places like ours the tools to thrive.”

Speaking in Parliament, Luke welcomed “the focus in this industrial strategy on the Tees Valley region and, in particular, our clean energy sector,” and called on Government for further “alignment on skills” and a “clean energy workforce strategy”.

Industry and policy leaders have also welcomed the plan: MAKE UK described it as ‘one of the most important days for British industry in a generation,’ while IPPR praised the government’s clear focus on clean energy, defence, and advanced manufacturing — highlighting the potential to boost the economy and create good jobs outside London.

Luke will continue to fight to ensure that this industrial strategy delivers real benefits for Teesside — good jobs, new industries, and a fairer, greener future for local communities.
