Families in East Cleveland are set to benefit from a major boost in local support, as a newly transformed Family Hub was officially opened in Loftus this week.

The relaunch forms part of a £2.6 million investment into Family Hubs across Redcar and Cleveland, designed to bring services together and make it easier for families to access the help they need, closer to home.

As Cabinet Member for Children overseeing the programme, Cllr Luke Myer attended the launch event in Loftus on 12 September, where families were invited to explore the revamped centre, meet staff, and take part in activities. The transformation means the service will now support children and young people from birth up to 19, expanding significantly on the previous offer.

The hubs will host a wider range of services, including midwifery support, enhanced maternity services, and partnerships with community organisations, alongside longer opening hours.

Cabinet Member for Children, Cllr Luke Myer said:

“This is an exciting improvement to our services for families right across the borough which means we will be able to offer more support to children and families.

“It is part of our wider work to tackle child poverty and deliver for local families, and there will be more developments to come. I’d like to congratulate everyone involved, and urge families get down to their local hub and find out what’s new!”

Local representatives also welcomed the investment. Loftus Town Mayor, Cllr Barry Hunt, and Loftus Labour Councillor Linda White attended the opening, with Cllr White highlighting the importance of accessible services in rural communities.

Loftus Labour Councillor, Linda White, said:

“Loftus is the furthest part of East Cleveland, and it’s important for us to have services locally that people can access.”

“Services on your doorstep is absolutely imperative. For us to get there into the prevention work, and help the communities of East Cleveland, I think is an amazing opportunity and a really welcome investment into Loftus.”

The Family Hub programme has been shaped by consultation with local families and a detailed assessment of community needs, ensuring services reflect what residents want and require.

Families across the borough are now being encouraged to visit their local hub and see what support is available.
