Luke Praises Cross-Party Unity to Deliver Key Upgrades for Guisborough

Luke expressed his congratulations to all Guisborough councillors and cabinet members for their exceptional cross-party collaboration during the discussions regarding the improvements to Westgate and Chaloner Street. “It’s clear that by listening to the community and working together, we’ve been able to address the main concerns raised by residents while still making real progress on revitalising the town centre,” he said.

Luke highlighted the importance of preserving Guisborough’s historic character, noting that changes had been agreed upon to protect the town’s heritage. The removal of the pedestrian crossing near Morrisons, the decision not to define formal parking bays, and the commitment to retain as many historic cobbles as possible were praised as examples of “real sensitivity to the town’s heritage.” These adjustments, according to Luke, are vital to ensure the regeneration works enhance rather than detract from Guisborough’s unique charm.

He also commended the proposed improvements to Chaloner Street and the market infrastructure, which include new natural stone paving, drop kerbs, power outlets, and anchor points. Luke stated that these additions “will be a huge benefit to the community,” helping Guisborough thrive as a market town and ensuring its future sustainability. He also noted that the addition of new benches, cycle stands, storage, and artwork would contribute to revitalising the area.

Acknowledging the importance of ongoing communication, Luke emphasised that the lessons learned from the Bakehouse Square project must be applied. He noted that his recent petition calling for high quality contractors with proven track records is still ongoing and has received strong community support. “This reflects the pride we all have in Guisborough and our commitment to making these regeneration projects a success,” he added.

In closing, Luke expressed confidence in the continued collaboration and community involvement in the plans for Chaloner Street and Westgate, saying, “Massive thanks to Councillor Lynn Pallister, Councillor Carl Quartermain and all the Guisborough councillors, for their dedication to getting this right. Let’s keep up the great work!”
