Luke secures ESA support for Hemlington resident

This week, Luke Myer MP helped secure long-awaited Employment and Support Allowance payments for a woman in Hemlington after delays with her National Insurance record left her without income for several months.

She had been unable to work following cancer surgery, but her ESA claim was held up due to misallocated Class 2 contributions.

Luke raised the case with both HMRC and the Department for Work and Pensions, pressing for clarity on the error and asking for the claim to be properly reviewed. Her payments were approved, bringing an end to months of uncertainty while she focused on her recovery.

Cases like this show how administrative delays can have a serious impact on people’s wellbeing, especially during illness. Even relatively small errors can leave people without essential support at the moments they need it most. Anyone who needs help with the DWP or other government departments can contact Luke at luke.myer.mp@parliament.uk, visit the Guisborough office, or book a face-to-face appointment at lukemyer.uk/surgeries.
