On 7 November, Luke Myer MP secured vital clarity and new rights for a woman in Easterside, after confusion over her tenancy status left her unsure whether she could move home following the death of her mother.
After Luke took up the case with Thirteen Group, the housing association confirmed that she had succeeded to her late mother’s tenancy, that rent arrears caused by Universal Credit delays had been fully cleared, and that she is now treated as an assured tenant able to bid for a new property straight away. Luke pushed Thirteen to review the case urgently so that she and her daughter could plan a fresh start, with clear information about their rights.
Luke continues to work with social landlords across Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland to ensure tenants are treated fairly, especially after major life events.
