Luke sparks action on Coulby Newham power fault

Power cut fault traced after local resident raises alarm

Luke Myer MP has secured action from Northern Powergrid after a resident in Coulby Newham reported repeated unplanned power cuts that damaged his boiler and disrupted home working. Following Luke’s intervention with the company’s executive team, engineers used specialist fault-finding equipment to trace an intermittent underground cable fault linked to the local substation and carried out full repairs.

Northern Powergrid’s programme and customer service managers are now reviewing the wider local network to assess whether further upgrades are needed, and Luke has pressed them to keep monitoring reliability and to be clearer with residents about their rights when appliances are damaged after power outages. Luke will continue to push energy companies and regulators to put customers first and ensure local networks are resilient, especially as more people rely on electricity to work from home.

If you are experiencing repeated power cuts, or have had damage to home equipment after an outage, you can email luke.myer.mp@parliament.uk, visit the Guisborough constituency office, or book a face-to-face appointment at lukemyer.uk/surgeries.
